Chapter 26- Tribute to John Denver

John Denver is my favorite singer, in my heart, one of the best that ever lived, with his sweet melodies and elegant guitar strumming, his no doubt one of the greatest folk singer that ever lived.
John Denver was born December 31 1943. Died on October 12 1997.
He was one of the biggest selling artists of the 1970s. In his lifetime, he recorded and released 289 songs, 140 of which he wrote.Denver's songs were suffused with a deep and abiding kinship with the natural world. Songs such as "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "Rocky Mountain High" are popular all over the world.

Who can be better than this man? What do teens listen to now? Have they no love left for the world? Have all of you forgotten the golden ages of songs? The real songs? Can singers today match the prowess of the singers of the past? Trust me, take some time off the songs today, and take a few old albums out of your dad's drawer and listen to them, some of them so sweet it brings tears to your eyes..

On October 12 1997, the aircraft he was piloting alone ran out of fuel, he apparently lost control of his jetplane and crashed. Denver's short cut but legendary life was honored at the following Grammy's and Country Music Awards. His music remains popular with all ages to this day.

I was never a real fan of any music at all or any fan of any artists, until I got to hear John Dever's songs. If he were here today, I would definitely attend his concert even if it weren't in Singapore. The best of his songs for me include, leaving on a jetplane, which I tried to brainwash everyone with, Country Roads, Thank God i'm a country boy.
The song played on this blog is Perhaps Love which was performed by John Denver and Placido Domingo.

"I'm leaving on a jetplane"
All my bags are packed I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn
The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I'll think of you
Every song I sing, I'll sing for you
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Close your eyes I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

"€ountry Roads, take me home"

Almost heaven
West Virginia
Blue rich mountains
Shenandoah River

Life is old there
older than the trees
younger than the mountains
growin' like a beeze

Country Roads
take me home
to the place
I belong
West Virginia
Mountain mama
take me home
my country roads

All my mem'ries
gather round her
Miner's lady
stranger to blue water
dark and dusty
painted on the skies
misty taste of moonshine
teardrop in my eyes

Country Roads
take me home
to the place
I belong
West Virginia
Mountain mama
take me home
my country roads

I hear her voice
in the morning hoursshe calls me
the radio reminds me of my homefar away
and drivin' down the road
I get a feelingthat I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country Roads
take me home
to the place
I belong
West Virginia
Mountain mama
take me home
my country roads

"Perhaps Love"

(Placido Domingo)Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home

(John Denver)Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through

(Placido Domingo)Love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel

(John Denver)For some a way of living
For some a way to feel

(Placido Domingo)And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know

(John starts joined by Placido)Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

(Placido Domingo)And some say love is holding onAnd some say letting go

(John Denver)And some say love is everythingAnd some say they don't know

(John starts joined by Placido)Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

John Denver lives on...
